Śūnya (Devoid)

Śūnya (Devoid) is a mixed media installation of three components — Vāsnā (on the right wall ), Adhyāsa (on the floor in the middle), and Adi Satya (on the left wall).

In Vāsnā (Desire), the layer of photoprint depicts our material necessities of food, clothing, and shelter as well as the abstract inclination towards power, while the layer of embroidery represents the corresponding bigger and better versions symbolising the human trait of dissatisfaction.

Adhyāsa (Superimposition) depicts the unpredicted course of action and consequences in the materialisation of our desires through found video footage of war bombing, climate change and man-made pollution.

Adi Satya (Eternal Truth) is a gentle reminder of the limits to our mortality and hubris to the disentanglement of our thoughts and actions.

The three parts of the installation evoke the cyclical nature of human life.
